This month we have chosen to focus our spotlight
on Alight Planning, an innovative new tool for developing
budgets and financial forecasts in an easy, rapid, and understandable
manner.
Alight Planning was developed by Alight, LLC., a three-year old company founded by Rand Heer.
Prior to founding Alight, Rand was a co-founder and CFO of Pillar - Pillar developed the leading
corporate financial modeling and forecasting application of the 1990's. (Pillar was later sold to by Hyperion.)
Agidigm is proud to be an Alight consulting partner, as we believe this unique new
tool offers a significant amount of value for small-to-medium businesses, and for
internal divisions or business units of larger firms. We chose to affiliate
with Alight based upon our past experience with financial forecasting and modeling tools,
and an understanding of the actual requirements that are placed upon
individuals who are not part of traditional corporate financial groups - individuals ranging
from division managers to IT leaders, from externally-focused product managers to internal-
directed project managers.
Using "object-oriented" programming techniques, Alight has created
a financial package that, unlike a standard spreadsheet, allows you
to quickly create a budget or forecast that cannot be "boken" (anyone
who has used a spreadsheet where they have had to link formulas in one
cell to that in another will understand how easy it is to have broken links
in their workbooks). Additionally, non-financial personnel have
found that using Alight's starter templates allows for a more rapid creation
of a financial model than starting with a blank spreadsheet would allow.
With Alight's secure multi-user architecture, the ability to consolidate inputs
from lower levels in the organization for an intelligent roll-up, and very light
footprint that requires no IT support, we believe that Alight Planning offers the
greatest value for those who are tasked with creating budgets, forecasts, and business
case justifications.

We do not have an economic
profile for this month, but look forward to posting a discussion in
the near-term future about an industry-standard, integrated spreadsheet
application that is used in the Microfinance industry. We are
currently in the process of converting this model from Excel to Alight, and
will post the results of this by the first of year.
